I'm Kalab Tenadeg, a full-stack engineer in Addis Ababa. I design APIs, ship production web apps, and integrate telecom partners like Telebirr and M-Pesa for services that run every day, not just in a demo.
How I work
Understand
I start by reading the existing code and asking the questions that actually change the build: who uses this, what breaks it, what does success look like in three months.
Architect
I pick the data model and design pattern for the problem in front of me, not the trendiest one, so the codebase is still easy to change long after launch.
Build
I write code with security and data-privacy habits built in from the first commit, and I keep you in the loop instead of disappearing until the demo.
Ship & support
I deploy, watch the logs, and stay around for the bug reports and the next feature request. Shipping is the start of the relationship, not the end.
From video editing to production systems
I didn't start in software. I spent my first few years editing video and building motion graphics, then moved into UI/UX design before writing my first line of production code in 2021. That path means I notice things a lot of backend-only engineers miss: how an interface feels under real use, not just how an API responds.
Since then I've worked across the stack, 10+ roles deep, on everything from ride-hailing admin panels to telecom VAS platforms integrating Telebirr and M-Pesa. I studied Computer Engineering at Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, and I still think like an engineer first: find the actual constraint, then build the simplest thing that holds up.
I care about code that's still easy to change a year after I write it, and about clients knowing what's happening with their project without having to chase me for an update.
